1. Seeking refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing

   أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ السَّمِيعِ الْعَلِيمِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

   I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from Satan the outcast.

   VirtueWhoever says it three times in the morning and then recites the last three verses of Sūrat al-Ḥashr, Allah appoints seventy thousand angels to pray for him until evening, and if he dies that day he dies a martyr; whoever says it in the evening has the same until morning. — Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī 2922 (ḍaʿīf).

2. The last three verses of Sūrat al-Ḥashr

   هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَـٰلِمُ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ ۖ هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ۝ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْمَلِكُ ٱلْقُدُّوسُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُ ٱلْمُهَيْمِنُ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْجَبَّارُ ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرُ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ ۝ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُ ٱلْبَارِئُ ٱلْمُصَوِّرُ ۖ لَهُ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

   He is Allah: there is no god but Him, Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. He is Allah: there is no god but Him, the King, the Most Holy, the Source of Peace, the Granter of Security, the Watchful Guardian, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme in Greatness. Glory be to Allah above all they associate with Him. He is Allah, the Creator, the Originator, the Fashioner. His are the most beautiful names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorifies Him, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.

3. Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ۝ قُلْ هُوَ ٱللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ۝ ٱللَّهُ ٱلصَّمَدُ ۝ لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ ۝ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌۢ

   In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Self-Sufficient, on whom all depend. He does not beget, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.

4. Sūrat al-Falaq

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ۝ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلْفَلَقِ ۝ مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ ۝ وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ ۝ وَمِن شَرِّ ٱلنَّفَّـٰثَـٰتِ فِى ٱلْعُقَدِ ۝ وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ

   In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak, from the evil of what He has created, from the evil of the darkness when it settles, from the evil of those who blow on knots, and from the evil of the envier when he envies.

5. Sūrat an-Nās

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ۝ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ ٱلنَّاسِ ۝ مَلِكِ ٱلنَّاسِ ۝ إِلَـٰهِ ٱلنَّاسِ ۝ مِن شَرِّ ٱلْوَسْوَاسِ ٱلْخَنَّاسِ ۝ ٱلَّذِى يُوَسْوِسُ فِى صُدُورِ ٱلنَّاسِ ۝ مِنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ

   In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the King of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the whisperer who withdraws, who whispers in the hearts of mankind, from among the jinn and mankind.

6. Glory be to Allah, evening and morning (Sūrat ar-Rūm)

   فَسُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ حِينَ تُمْسُونَ وَحِينَ تُصْبِحُونَ ۝ وَلَهُ ٱلْحَمْدُ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَعَشِيًّا وَحِينَ تُظْهِرُونَ ۝ يُخْرِجُ ٱلْحَىَّ مِنَ ٱلْمَيِّتِ وَيُخْرِجُ ٱلْمَيِّتَ مِنَ ٱلْحَىِّ وَيُحْىِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ تُخْرَجُونَ

   So glory be to Allah when you enter the evening and when you enter the morning. To Him belongs all praise in the heavens and the earth, in the late afternoon and when you reach midday. He brings the living out of the dead and the dead out of the living, and gives life to the earth after its death; and in the same way you will be brought out.

7. Āyat al-Kursī

   ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُۥ سِنَةٌۭ وَلَا نَوْمٌۭ ۚ لَّهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ مَن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَىْءٍۢ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَـُٔودُهُۥ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

   Allah: there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on the earth. Who could intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they grasp nothing of His knowledge except what He wills. His Footstool extends over the heavens and the earth, and guarding them does not tire Him. He is the Most High, the Supreme.

8. The opening of Sūrat Ghāfir

   بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ۝ حمٓ ۝ تَنزِيلُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ ۝ غَافِرِ ٱلذَّنۢبِ وَقَابِلِ ٱلتَّوْبِ شَدِيدِ ٱلْعِقَابِ ذِى ٱلطَّوْلِ ۖ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ إِلَيْهِ ٱلْمَصِيرُ

   In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. Ḥā Mīm. The revelation of this Book is from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Knowing, Forgiver of sin and Accepter of repentance, severe in punishment, Possessor of bounty. There is no god but Him; to Him is the final return.

   VirtueWhoever recites the opening of Ghāfir up to ‘to Him is the final return’ together with Āyat al-Kursī in the morning is protected by them until evening, and whoever recites them in the evening is protected until morning. — Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī 2879 (ḍaʿīf).

9. In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing harms

   بِاسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

   In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

   VirtueWhoever says it three times in the morning will not be struck by sudden affliction before evening, and whoever says it three times in the evening will not be struck before morning. — Sunan Abī Dāwūd 5088 (ṣaḥīḥ).

10. Refuge in the perfect words of Allah

    أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ

    I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

    VirtueA man stung by a scorpion was told by the Prophet ﷺ: had you said these words in the evening, it would not have harmed you. — Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2709.

11. You are the most worthy of remembrance

    اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ أَحَقُّ مَنْ ذُكِرَ، وَأَحَقُّ مَنْ عُبِدَ، وَأَنْصَرُ مَنِ ابْتُغِيَ، وَأَرْأَفُ مَنْ مَلَكَ، وَأَجْوَدُ مَنْ سُئِلَ، وَأَوْسَعُ مَنْ أَعْطَى، أَنْتَ الْمَلِكُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، وَالْفَرْدُ لَا نِدَّ لَكَ، كُلُّ شَيْءٍ هَالِكٌ إِلَّا وَجْهَكَ، لَنْ تُطَاعَ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِكَ، وَلَنْ تُعْصَى إِلَّا بِعِلْمِكَ، تُطَاعُ فَتَشْكُرُ، وَتُعْصَى فَتَغْفِرُ، أَقْرَبُ شَهِيدٍ، وَأَدْنَى حَفِيظٍ، حُلْتَ دُونَ النُّفُوسِ، وَأَخَذْتَ بِالنَّوَاصِي، وَكَتَبْتَ الْآثَارَ، وَنَسَخْتَ الْآجَالَ، الْقُلُوبُ لَكَ مُفْضِيَةٌ، وَالسِّرُّ عِنْدَكَ عَلَانِيَةٌ، الْحَلَالُ مَا أَحْلَلْتَ، وَالْحَرَامُ مَا حَرَّمْتَ، وَالدِّينُ مَا شَرَعْتَ، وَالْأَمْرُ مَا قَضَيْتَ، وَالْخَلْقُ خَلْقُكَ، وَالْعَبْدُ عَبْدُكَ، وَأَنْتَ اللَّهُ الرَّؤُوفُ الرَّحِيمُ، أَسْأَلُكَ بِنُورِ وَجْهِكَ الَّذِي أَشْرَقَتْ لَهُ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ، وَبِكُلِّ حَقٍّ هُوَ لَكَ، وَبِحَقِّ السَّائِلِينَ عَلَيْكَ، أَنْ تُقِيلَنِي فِي هَذِهِ الْغَدَاةِ، وَفِي هَذِهِ الْعَشِيَّةِ، وَأَنْ تُجِيرَنِي مِنَ النَّارِ بِقُدْرَتِكَ

    O Allah, You are the most worthy of being remembered and the most worthy of being worshipped, the greatest helper of those who seek help, the kindest of all who hold dominion, the most generous of all who are asked, and the most bountiful of all who give. You are the King without partner, the One without equal. Everything will perish except Your Face. You are obeyed only by Your leave and disobeyed only with Your knowledge. You are obeyed and You show gratitude; You are disobeyed and You forgive. You are the nearest witness and the closest guardian. You stand between souls and what they intend, You hold them by their forelocks, You have recorded their deeds and set their appointed terms. Hearts lie open to You, and what is secret is plain to You. The lawful is what You made lawful, the unlawful is what You forbade, the religion is what You ordained, and the command is what You decreed. The creation is Your creation and the servant is Your servant, and You are Allah, the Most Kind, the Most Merciful. I ask You by the light of Your Face, by which the heavens and the earth shine, by every right that is Yours, and by the right of those who ask of You, to pardon me this morning and this evening, and to protect me from the Fire by Your power.

12. Here I am, O Allah

    لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ وَسَعْدَيْكَ، وَالْخَيْرُ فِي يَدَيْكَ، وَمِنْكَ وَإِلَيْكَ، اللَّهُمَّ مَا قُلْتُ مِنْ قَوْلٍ، أَوْ حَلَفْتُ مِنْ حَلِفٍ، أَوْ نَذَرْتُ مِنْ نَذْرٍ، فَمَشِيئَتُكَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ، مَا شِئْتَ كَانَ، وَمَا لَمْ تَشَأْ لَا يَكُونُ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِكَ، إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، اللَّهُمَّ مَا صَلَّيْتُ مِنْ صَلَاةٍ فَعَلَى مَنْ صَلَّيْتَ، وَمَا لَعَنْتُ مِنْ لَعْنٍ فَعَلَى مَنْ لَعَنْتَ، أَنْتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ، تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِينَ

    Here I am, O Allah, here I am; here I am, at Your service. All good is in Your hands; it comes from You and returns to You. O Allah, whatever I have said, sworn or vowed, Your will comes before all of it: what You will comes to be, and what You do not will does not come to be. There is no might and no power except through You; You have power over all things. O Allah, whatever blessing I have invoked, let it fall on those You bless, and whatever curse I have uttered, let it fall on those You curse. You are my Protector in this world and the Hereafter; take my soul as a Muslim and join me with the righteous.

13. Contentment after Your decree

    اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الرِّضَا بَعْدَ الْقَضَاءِ، وَبَرْدَ الْعَيْشِ بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ، وَلَذَّةَ النَّظَرِ إِلَى وَجْهِكَ، وَشَوْقًا إِلَى لِقَائِكَ، فِي غَيْرِ ضَرَّاءَ مُضِرَّةٍ، وَلَا فِتْنَةٍ مُضِلَّةٍ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَظْلِمَ أَوْ أُظْلَمَ، أَوْ أَعْتَدِيَ أَوْ يُعْتَدَى عَلَيَّ، أَوْ أَكْسِبَ خَطِيئَةً أَوْ ذَنْبًا لَا تَغْفِرُهُ، اللَّهُمَّ فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ، عَالِمَ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ، ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَالْإِكْرَامِ، فَإِنِّي أَعْهَدُ إِلَيْكَ فِي هَذِهِ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا، وَأُشْهِدُكَ، وَكَفَى بِكَ شَهِيدًا، أَنِّي أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، وَحْدَكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ، لَكَ الْمُلْكُ وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ، وَأَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُكَ وَرَسُولُكَ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ وَعْدَكَ حَقٌّ، وَلِقَاءَكَ حَقٌّ، وَالسَّاعَةَ آتِيَةٌ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهَا، وَأَنَّكَ تَبْعَثُ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ، وَأَنَّكَ إِنْ تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي تَكِلْنِي إِلَى ضَعْفٍ وَعَوْرَةٍ وَذَنْبٍ وَخَطِيئَةٍ، وَإِنِّي لَا أَثِقُ إِلَّا بِرَحْمَتِكَ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي كُلَّهَا، إِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ

    O Allah, I ask You for contentment after Your decree, ease of life after death, the delight of looking upon Your Face and longing to meet You, without harmful affliction or misleading trial. I seek refuge in You from wronging or being wronged, from transgressing or being transgressed against, and from earning a sin or a fault that You do not forgive. O Allah, Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Possessor of majesty and honour, I make this pledge to You in this worldly life and call You to witness, and You suffice as a witness, that I bear witness there is no god but You alone, without partner; Yours is the dominion and Yours is the praise, and You have power over all things. I bear witness that Muhammad is Your servant and Messenger. I bear witness that Your promise is true, the meeting with You is true, the Hour is coming without doubt, and You will raise those in the graves. If You leave me to myself, You leave me to weakness, exposure, sin and error. I trust in nothing but Your mercy, so forgive me all my sins, for none forgives sins but You, and turn to me in mercy; You are the Ever-Relenting, the Most Merciful.

14. We have entered the morning, and greatness belongs to Allah

    أَصْبَحْنَا وَأَصْبَحَ الْمُلْكُ لِلَّهِ، وَالْكِبْرِيَاءُ وَالْعَظَمَةُ وَالْخَلْقُ وَالْأَمْرُ وَاللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ وَمَا يُضْحَى فِيهِمَا لِلَّهِ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ أَوَّلَ هَذَا النَّهَارِ صَلَاحًا، وَأَوْسَطَهُ فَلَاحًا، وَآخِرَهُ نَجَاحًا، أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

    We have entered the morning, and the dominion belongs to Allah. Greatness, majesty, creation, command, night and day, and all that appears in them belong to Allah alone, without partner. O Allah, make the beginning of this day goodness, its middle success and its end fulfilment. I ask You for the good of this world and the Hereafter, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy.

    VirtueWhoever says it a hundred times in the day and a hundred in the night, no one will bring more on that Day, except someone who said the same or more. — Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī 3471 (ḍaʿīf).

42. Sending blessings on the Prophet ﷺ

    اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ، اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

    O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrāhīm and upon the family of Ibrāhīm; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm; You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.

43. Soundness in faith

    اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ صِحَّةً فِي إِيمَانٍ، وَإِيمَانًا فِي حُسْنِ خُلُقٍ، وَنَجَاحًا يَتْبَعُهُ فَلَاحٌ، وَرَحْمَةً مِنْكَ، وَعَافِيَةً، وَمَغْفِرَةً مِنْكَ، وَرِضْوَانًا

    O Allah, I ask You for soundness in faith, faith joined with good character, success followed by true prosperity, mercy from You, well-being, and forgiveness and good pleasure from You.
