O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my sight and light in my hearing. Place light on my right and place light on my left. Place light above me and place light beneath me. Place light in front of me, place light behind me and grant me light.
Virtue
Ibn ʿAbbas (radiy Allāhū ʿanhumā): One night I slept at the house of Maimūnā (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhā). The Prophet ﷺ woke up, answered the call of nature, washed his face and hands, and then slept. He got up (late at night), went to a water skin, opened the mouth and performed wudhū not using much water, yet he washed all the parts properly and then offered the prayer.
I got up and stretched, fearing that the Prophet ﷺ might sense that I was watching him, and then I performed wudhū, and when he got up to offer the Salah, I stood on his left. He caught hold of my ear and brought me over to his right side. He offered thirteen rakʿāt (units) in total and then lay down and slept till he started breathing heavily as he used to do when he slept.
In the meantime Bilal (radiy Allāhū ʿanhu) informed the Prophet ﷺ of the approaching of (Fajr) Salah, and the Prophet ﷺ offered the Fajr salah without performing a new wudhū. And he used to say in his supplication [the above]. (Bukhārī 6316, Muslim 763)
